Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.- Hoteles Nacionales, the Sheraton Santo Domingo Hotel and Save the Children Dominicana formally announced the launch of “Capotillo Protege”, a high-impact social project designed to prevent violence, foster empowerment and promote the creation of safe environments, with priority and differentiated attention to the development of girls and adolescents in the Capotillo sector.
This initiative is funded by Hoteles Nacionales, operator of the Sheraton Santo Domingo Hotel, under the strategic vision and commitment of its president, Paula Lama. Her consistent leadership and investment with a social purpose have been key to consolidating this multi-sector alliance with Save the Children Dominican Republic, setting a precedent for how the private sector can implement sustainable interventions with genuine social value in vulnerable communities.
“Capotillo Protege” responds comprehensively to local problems through actions aimed at strengthening socio-emotional development, community leadership and the prevention of risks and violence that particularly impact girls and adolescents.
The project includes the development of training workshops, the creation of safe spaces for participation, the strengthening of community networks, and the provision of practical tools that allow children to actively exercise their rights and create a life plan with better opportunities.
In its implementation, the initiative projects a direct reach that will benefit 275 adolescents aged 13 to 17, 180 girls aged 8 to 12 and 180 families in the community.
This program strengthens the ongoing work that Save the Children Dominican Republic carries out in the Capotillo sector, where for years it has positively impacted thousands of children, adolescents and their families.
Through interdisciplinary programs encompassing quality education, social inclusion, art, and sports, the organization has used these disciplines as key vehicles to promote a culture of peace, resilience, and community cohesion.
The alliance between Hoteles Nacionales, operator of the Sheraton Santo Domingo Hotel, and Save the Children Dominicana demonstrates that corporate social responsibility makes the most sense when it focuses on people and the sustainability of solutions.
By actively involving the community in every stage of the project, “Capotillo Protege” seeks to consolidate a circular protection model where the families and local actors themselves become permanent guarantors of the well-being of present and future generations.
